The licence
You may install and use Blackout on any Apple-branded device you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service. You may not copy the app except as allowed by that licence, reverse-engineer it, rent or sublicense it, or remove any proprietary notices from it.
Blackout Pro subscription
- What it unlocks. Unlimited prepared copies (the free tier includes three per calendar month), password protection, the itemised hidden-data report, and the optional preparation steps: page selection, combining and splitting, stamps, headers, page numbers, signing, notes, corrections, and sending as Word, Excel, PowerPoint or images.
- Price and length. US$9.99 per year, or the equivalent in your local currency as shown in the app before you buy. The price shown in the app at the moment of purchase is the price that applies.
- Automatic renewal. The subscription renews automatically at the end of each yearly period unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before that period ends. Your Apple Account is charged for the renewal within 24 hours of the end of the current period.
- Managing and cancelling. Manage or cancel at any time in Settings ▸ your name ▸ Subscriptions on iPhone and iPad, or App Store ▸ your name ▸ Account Settings on Mac. Cancelling stops future charges; it does not shorten the period you have already paid for.
- Price changes. If the price rises, Apple will ask for your consent before charging the higher amount, and the subscription will not renew at the new price until you agree.
- Family Sharing. The subscription can be shared with your family group.
- Free trials. There is no free trial. If one is ever offered, any unused portion is forfeited when you buy a subscription.
Refunds
Purchases are handled by Apple, not by us, so refunds are handled by Apple too. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue refunds ourselves, but do write to us first if something is broken — we would rather fix it.
Your documents are yours
We claim no rights over anything you open, create or edit. The app has no account and stores nothing about your files outside your own device. See the privacy policy.
No warranty
Blackout is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that it is free of defects, or that the scan will find every sensitive detail on every document: detection looks for known shapes and can miss an unlabelled number or an unusual name. The Review screen exists so that you, not the app, decide what leaves — check the copy before you send it, and use Find & hide or Mark area for anything the scan did not flag.
Keep your own backups. Blackout never modifies your original file; every result is a new copy. Even so, files on your device are your responsibility. We are not liable for lost or damaged documents, and our total liability is limited to what you paid in the twelve months before the claim.
Third-party terms
You agree to comply with any applicable third-party terms when using the app — for example your wireless carrier's agreement. Apple is not responsible for the app, and is not a party to these terms, but may enforce them as a third-party beneficiary.
Changes
If these terms change, the updated version will appear here with a new date. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it.
